To be remembered for being important in someone’s life; let them feel appreciated. If I asked you, could you name the three wealthiest people in the world, or the last three people who won the Nobel Prize, or the last Academy Awards achievers, could you do it? Few of us remember the headlines of yesterday because when the applause dies down, our mind moves on to other things.
If I asked you to list three mentors or teachers who inspired you and believed in you, or three friends who helped you get through difficult times, or three people who significantly impacted your business…that’s much easier to do, isn’t it? That’s because the people who make a difference in your life aren’t the ones with the most credentials, the most money or the most awards. They’re the ones who care. If you want to be remembered for being important to someone’s life, make them feel appreciated!
The most effective way to let others know how much you appreciate and care for them is through written words of gratitude. And I don’t mean in an email, texting, or any other type of instant, delete method of communicating. Taking a moment to send a heartfelt card in the mail keeps you memorable as it’s often shown to others as a testimony of how you feel about them, and displayed as a reminder of your care. When all is said and done, people remember most how you made them feel!
